Editorial policy for our calculators

Where the rules come from, how often they are checked, and how to get an error fixed.

Where the rules come from

Every rate, threshold, slab and formula used by a calculator is taken from the body that sets it — MOHRE, the Federal Tax Authority, the Central Bank and the Dubai Land Department for the UAE; HRSD, GOSI, ZATCA and SAMA for Saudi Arabia; FBR and NEPRA for Pakistan; HMRC and gov.uk for the UK; the European Commission for EU VAT — or, where the authority publishes no consolidated figure, from a named secondary source that is linked on the page. Each calculator lists its sources under the explanation.

Figures are stored in one rules file per country, not typed into individual pages. When a rate changes it is changed once and every calculator that uses it updates together.

How figures are checked and dated

Each rules file records the date its figures were last confirmed against the source. That date is printed on every calculator page as "last checked". A figure we have not yet been able to confirm against the current year's official notice is shown with a visible warning on the page, and the rules file marks it as unverified; we do not remove the warning until the figure has been confirmed.

Rules are re-checked whenever the relevant authority publishes a change — the UAE and Saudi labour and tax rules as they are amended, Pakistan's Finance Act each July, UK rates each April and after each Budget, EU VAT rates as the Commission's table is updated — and in any case at least once a year.

Who writes and reviews

The calculators are written and maintained by the Swift IT Sols editorial team, which builds and operates the accounting, payroll and booking systems these rules apply to. About SWIFT SOLS. Where a page names an external reviewer, that person has reviewed the rule and the worked examples and agreed to be named; we do not attribute reviews to people who have not.

Corrections

Every calculator page has a "Found an error? Report it" link. A report should give the inputs used, the result shown, the result expected and the rule or source it is based on. Reports are checked against the source; a confirmed error is corrected in the rules file, the "last checked" date is updated, and the correction is noted on the page. We aim to publish confirmed corrections within a week. Reports go to Info@swiftitsols.com.

What a calculator is, and is not

A calculator applies the general rule to the numbers you enter. It does not know your contract, your tax residency, your visa status, exemptions you may qualify for, or changes announced after the last check. Every page lists the assumptions its result depends on. The result is an estimate to help you understand a rule or prepare for a conversation with a professional — it is not tax, legal, financial or religious advice, and it does not replace the official calculator where an authority provides one (for example PTA's DIRBS calculator).
