Crop Image Online — Square, 16:9, 4:3, Custom
Crop a photo to a preset ratio (Instagram square, YouTube 16:9, 4:3, 3:2) or a custom size, with an optional circular profile-picture cut-out — on your device.
Drag the image to position it inside the frame; use the zoom slider to enlarge.
In short
Common crop ratios: 1:1 at 1080 px for Instagram and profile photos, 4:5 for Instagram portrait, 9:16 (1080 × 1920) for Stories and Reels, 16:9 (1280 × 720) for YouTube thumbnails, 3:2 for 6 × 4 prints and 7:9 (35 × 45 mm, 413 × 531 px at 300 dpi) for passport photos. Cropping keeps original pixels; a circular cut-out needs PNG for transparency.
Who this is for: Anyone preparing a profile picture, social post, thumbnail or print from a photo.
Common crop sizes
| Use | Ratio | Recommended pixels |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram post / profile photo | 1:1 | 1080 × 1080 |
| Instagram portrait | 4:5 | 1080 × 1350 |
| Stories, Reels, TikTok, Shorts | 9:16 | 1080 × 1920 |
| YouTube thumbnail / banner | 16:9 | 1280 × 720 / 2560 × 1440 |
| LinkedIn / Facebook cover | ≈ 4:1 (custom 1584 × 396) | 1584 × 396 |
| Passport / visa photo | 35 × 45 mm (7:9) | 413 × 531 at 300 dpi |
| Photo print 6 × 4 in | 3:2 | 1800 × 1200 |
The frame shows exactly what will be kept; drag to position and zoom to enlarge. Output width sets the final pixel size (height follows the ratio); leave it blank to keep the original resolution of the cropped area. For passport photos with exact KB limits, use the dedicated passport photo tool.

Assumptions
- The frame is the selected ratio; the image is scaled to cover it, draggable and zoomable up to 4×.
- Output = the framed source pixels, optionally resized to the given width; circle mode masks to an ellipse and exports PNG.
- Processed on the device.
Worked example
Choose 1:1, zoom 2.5× and drag your face to the centre, tick Circle, set output 800 px → an 800 × 800 PNG with a transparent background outside the circle, ready for WhatsApp, LinkedIn or a website avatar.
Frequently asked questions
Does cropping reduce quality?
No — the cropped area is copied at its original pixels unless you set a smaller output width. Zooming in a lot on a small photo will look soft, because there are fewer source pixels.
Why is the output a PNG for circles?
JPG cannot store transparency; the circular cut-out needs a transparent background, so it is saved as PNG.
Can I crop to an exact size like 600 × 400?
Choose Free / custom, enter 600 and 400 as the ratio, and set the output width to 600.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes — drag with a finger and use the zoom slider; the download goes to your phone's files or photos.
How do I crop a photo to a square?
Choose 1:1, drag and zoom to frame it, then Crop & download.
What size is an Instagram profile picture?
It displays as a circle from a 1:1 image; 320 × 320 is the minimum and 1080 × 1080 is ideal.
