EXIF Viewer & Remover — See and Strip Photo Metadata
See what a photo's metadata reveals — camera, date, software, GPS location — and download a clean copy with all metadata removed, without uploading the photo.
In short
JPG photos carry EXIF metadata — camera make and model, date and time, settings and often GPS coordinates. WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and X strip it on upload, but email, cloud links, websites, marketplace listings and PDF attachments do not; re-encoding the image removes all metadata while keeping the pixels.
Who this is for: Anyone posting photos to listings, websites or email who wants to see and remove location and camera data.
What photo metadata reveals — and who strips it
- EXIF is written by cameras and phones into every JPG: make and model, date and time, exposure settings, software, and — if location was on — the GPS coordinates of where it was taken, accurate to a few metres.
- WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and X strip EXIF on upload; email, Google Drive, Dropbox, websites, marketplace listings (Daraz, OLX, property portals), WordPress uploads and PDF attachments do not. A home-listing photo can reveal the seller's home; a product photo can reveal the shop.
- The clean copy here is re-encoded through the canvas, which carries no metadata at all; orientation is baked into the pixels so the image still displays the right way up.
- Original pixels are untouched except for one JPG re-encode at the quality you set (92 default).

Assumptions
- Parses the JPEG APP1 Exif segment: IFD0, Exif sub-IFD and GPS IFD for common tags (make, model, dates, exposure, lens, GPS).
- Clean copy = canvas re-encode (orientation applied), which drops EXIF, XMP, IPTC and ICC data.
- Maker notes and XMP are not displayed but are removed.
Worked example
Metadata shows Samsung Galaxy S24, taken 3 October 2026 at 18:42, f/1.8, and GPS 31.5204, 74.3587 — the seller's street in Lahore. Download the clean copy and post that instead.
Frequently asked questions
Does WhatsApp remove location data from photos?
Yes — WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook and X strip EXIF. Sending as a document/file in WhatsApp, or by email, keeps it.
Can I remove metadata from many photos?
This tool handles one at a time so you can see what is in each; the bulk image compressor also produces metadata-free files for batches.
Will removing EXIF rotate my photo wrongly?
No — the orientation tag is applied before saving, so the clean copy looks the same as the original.
Does it work on screenshots?
Screenshots rarely carry EXIF but PNGs can include text chunks (device, app); the clean copy removes those too.
How do I remove location data from a photo?
Open it here, read the metadata to confirm what it contains, and download the clean copy — the GPS and camera data are gone.
Do photos show where they were taken?
Yes if location was enabled when shooting — the GPS coordinates are stored in the EXIF data unless the app or service strips it.
