Gold Zakat Calculator (Per Tola) — Pakistan 2026

Work out zakat due on gold held in tola or grams, using the 7.5-tola nisab threshold and today's gold price.

Not a religious ruling. This calculator applies the widely-used gold-based nisab and 2.5% zakat rate. Different schools of thought use different nisab bases (some use silver, which gives a lower cash threshold) — follow your own scholar or school of thought for the ruling that applies to you.
Check today's rate from a reliable source (e.g. your local Sarafa Bazaar association or a jewellers' association rate) before calculating.

In short

Zakat on gold is 2.5% of its value once your total zakatable wealth reaches the nisab of 7.5 tola (87.48 grams) of gold and has been held for one lunar year. Some scholars use the lower silver-based nisab instead.

Who this is for: Anyone holding gold who wants to check whether they meet nisab and how much zakat is due.

Not tax or legal advice. This tool applies general, widely-taught zakat calculation practice and is not a fatwa or substitute for guidance from a qualified scholar. Gold prices fluctuate daily — use today's actual rate, not a remembered or estimated figure, for an accurate result.

Nisab and the 2.5% rate

Zakat on gold (and other zakatable wealth) is widely calculated as follows:

  • Nisab (threshold): using the gold-based nisab, this is 7.5 tola (87.48 grams) of gold — if your total zakatable wealth is below the cash value of this much gold, zakat is not obligatory. If you also hold cash or other zakatable assets, add them to your gold's value before comparing to the nisab.
  • Hawl (holding period): zakat is due on wealth you've held for one full lunar (Hijri) year.
  • Rate: 2.5% of total zakatable wealth once the nisab and hawl conditions are met.

Different schools of thought and scholars vary on some details — notably some use a silver-based nisab instead of gold, which produces a much lower cash threshold since silver is worth far less per gram, meaning more people would meet the nisab and owe zakat. This calculator uses the gold-based nisab only. Consult your own scholar or school of thought for guidance specific to your situation.

This reflects widely-taught general zakat practice and is not a fatwa. For a specific ruling, consult a qualified scholar.

Assumptions

  • Nisab is 7.5 tola (87.48 g) of gold valued at the price per tola you enter.
  • Zakat is 2.5% of gold value plus any other zakatable amount you add, only when the total reaches nisab.
  • The one-lunar-year holding condition is assumed to be met.

Worked example

10 tola of gold, price PKR 320,000/tola, no other zakatable assets

Gold value: 10 × PKR 320,000 = PKR 3,200,000
Nisab: 7.5 × PKR 320,000 = PKR 2,400,000 — met, since 3,200,000 > 2,400,000
Zakat due: 3,200,000 × 2.5% = PKR 80,000

Frequently asked questions

Do I owe zakat on gold I wear regularly?

This is a point of difference between scholars — some hold that gold in personal everyday use (like a wedding ring worn regularly) is exempt, others hold all gold above nisab is zakatable regardless of use. Follow your own scholar's guidance.

Should I include gold jewellery with stones?

Common practice is to zakat only the gold weight/value, not the value added by gemstones or craftsmanship — though practices vary; ask your scholar if this matters for a significant piece.

What if I also have cash savings?

Add them to your gold's value using the 'other zakatable cash/savings' field — the combined total is what's compared against the nisab threshold, and zakat (if due) is calculated on the combined total.

Is zakat due on gold jewellery worn daily?

Scholars differ; many hold that all gold above nisab is zakatable, others exempt ordinary personal jewellery. Follow your own school of thought.

Which gold price should I use?

The market price on the day zakat becomes due, for the purity you hold (24K, 22K or 21K).
