In short
A Pakistani car loan instalment is calculated with the standard amortisation formula on the financed amount (price minus down payment), usually at a KIBOR-linked floating rate for conventional loans or a comparable profit rate for Islamic financing, over 1–7 years.
Who this is for: Car buyers in Pakistan estimating the monthly installment on bank or Islamic financing.
How the monthly installment is calculated
This uses the standard loan amortization formula:
EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1)
where P is the loan amount (car price minus down payment), r is the monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12), and n is the number of monthly installments.
KIBOR-linked rates: most conventional Pakistani bank car loans quote a rate as "KIBOR + spread" (e.g. 3-month KIBOR + 3%), which resets periodically — your actual installment can change over the loan term as KIBOR moves. Enter your bank's current all-in rate for an estimate at today's rate.
Islamic financing: Islamic banks typically use diminishing musharaka (declining partnership) or ijarah (leasing) structures rather than a simple interest loan. The monthly outflow is often comparable to an equivalent conventional EMI, but the underlying contract, ownership and early-settlement treatment differ. Treat the Islamic-mode result here as an approximation, not a product-accurate quote — get an amortization schedule from the specific bank/Islamic window.

Assumptions
- Standard amortisation on price minus down payment at the annual rate you enter.
- Islamic mode uses the same arithmetic with a profit rate; product structures differ in practice.
- Insurance, tracker and processing fees are excluded.
Worked example
Loan amount = PKR 3,000,000
Monthly rate = 22% ÷ 12 = 1.833%
n = 60 months
Monthly installment ≈ PKR 83,700 (approximate)
Total payable over 5 years ≈ PKR 5,020,000, of which ≈ PKR 2,020,000 is interest.
Frequently asked questions
Does this include insurance and tracker costs?
No — most Pakistani car financing also requires comprehensive insurance and a tracking device, billed separately (often bundled into the monthly payment by the bank). Add these to get your true total monthly outflow.
Will my installment change during the loan?
If your bank uses a KIBOR-linked floating rate, yes — your installment can be revised periodically (often every 3-6 months) as KIBOR moves. Fixed-rate products keep the same installment throughout.
What's a typical down payment requirement?
Commonly 15-30% of the car price for conventional financing, though this varies by bank, car type (new vs used) and applicant profile.
What is KIBOR and why does it matter?
KIBOR is the interbank rate most Pakistani banks add a spread to; when it moves, floating-rate installments move with it at the next reset.
Can I pay off a car loan early?
Yes, usually after a lock-in period and with an early-settlement charge; Islamic products settle at the outstanding purchase price.
