UAE Car Loan Calculator — Flat vs Reducing Rate 2026

UAE car loan calculator: monthly instalment, total interest and the real APR of a flat-rate offer compared with reducing balance — for Dubai and Abu Dhabi bank car loans.

"Flat rate" means interest is charged on the full original loan for the whole term, not on the reducing balance.
Interest is charged only on the outstanding balance each month, like a standard mortgage or personal loan.

In short

A 'flat rate' UAE car loan charges interest on the full original amount for the whole term, so a 3% flat rate costs roughly the same as a 5.5–6% reducing-balance rate. Always compare offers on total interest paid, not the headline rate.

Who this is for: UAE car buyers comparing a flat-rate and a reducing-balance finance offer on total cost.

Not tax or legal advice. This is a general amortization comparison. Actual bank offers vary by processing fees, insurance bundling and early-settlement terms. Always confirm the exact quote and installment schedule with your bank or dealer before signing.

Why a lower-looking rate can cost more

UAE car finance offers are quoted either as a flat rate or a reducing-balance rate, and the two are not directly comparable just by looking at the percentage:

  • Flat rate: interest is calculated once on the full original loan amount and spread evenly across every installment, even though you're paying the loan down. A "3% flat rate" is roughly equivalent to a much higher reducing-balance rate — often close to double.
  • Reducing balance: interest is calculated each month only on what you still owe, so it falls as the balance falls. This is the same method used for mortgages and most personal loans.

Because of this, a bank quoting "3.2% flat" and another quoting "5.5% reducing" could easily cost about the same, or one could be meaningfully cheaper — you can't tell without doing the math. This calculator does that math for you so you can compare on actual total cost, not the headline rate.

Assumptions

  • Offer A charges the flat rate on the full original loan for the whole term.
  • Offer B uses standard reducing-balance amortisation.
  • Processing fees, insurance and early-settlement charges are excluded.

Worked example

AED 120,000 car, AED 24,000 down payment, 5-year term

Loan amount: AED 96,000
Offer A (3.2% flat): total interest ≈ AED 15,360, monthly ≈ AED 1,856
Offer B (5.5% reducing): total interest ≈ AED 14,050, monthly ≈ AED 1,835
Offer B is cheaper by roughly AED 1,300 in total, despite quoting a higher headline rate.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my bank's quote is flat or reducing?

Ask directly — banks and dealers don't always state it clearly. If the rate feels unusually low (under ~4%) for UAE car finance, it's very likely a flat rate.

Does this include processing fees or insurance?

No — most UAE car loans also carry a one-off processing fee (often 1% of the loan) and require comprehensive insurance, sometimes bundled into the monthly payment. Add these separately for your true total cost.

Is early settlement the same for both types?

No — early settlement rules and rebate calculations differ by product and bank, and are regulated separately. Ask your bank for their specific early-settlement policy before assuming you'll save the full remaining interest.

What is a typical UAE car loan rate?

Banks advertise flat rates from roughly 2.5–4% and reducing rates from roughly 5–8%, depending on car, applicant and term.

Is there a maximum car loan in the UAE?

Central Bank rules cap car finance at 80% of the vehicle value and total debt repayments at 50% of income, and terms at 60 months.
